From December 22, 2024 to January 5, 2025, our 17th nativity scene was on display in the hidden corners of Gradež. 325 nativity scenes were set up, which were seen by nearly 1,500 visitors, including a larger group from Prekmurje and members of the DU for Selška valley.
The exhibition was opened at the opening event by the president of the association, Lojze Senčar. He thanked the members and exhibitors and wished everyone a pleasant holiday and a happy new year. At the opening and closing of the exhibition, Krheljčki cheered with singing, and at the end, also the parish choir from Škocjan. At the opening of the exhibition, visitors could watch Lado Jakob (carving), Mateja Jakob Owen (bobbing) and Beti Šavli (embroidery) in the fruit drying room making nativity scenes.
The tour was accompanied by guides on all days at the published times. Visitors could warm themselves with a hot drink, treat themselves to pancakes or mice on individual days, and at the end they were delighted to taste the Christmas bread (poprtnik). At the opening and closing of the exhibition, the visitors could buy goodies or products suitable for gifts.
This year, 70 new cribs were erected, there were 66 exhibitors. They are still a collection of all possible materials, shapes and sizes, they were erected in outbuildings, in the new superstructure next to the drying room, in imitation of an underground cave and outdoors.
As always, the visitors highly praised the exhibition, which also resonated with the public. We are proud that the Austrian ORF has also recorded a very interesting program about cribs and fruit drying called Krippen und Dörrobst aus Gradez (https://kaernten.orf.at/tv/stories/3286672/).
There will be more in the next Trobli.
